Health & Safety Overview

The general public associates the Red Cross with helping people during earthquakes, floods, hurricanes and other natural disasters.  This statement cannot be more true.  The Red Cross does help those in need when a castastrophe occurs.  And we are proud to say, we are the largest disaster relief organization available.  However, what the public sometimes overlooks is that our services do not stop there.  This humanitarian organization offers so much more.

For nearly a century, the American Red Cross has prepared people to save lives through health and safety education and training. From First Aid, CPR, (Infant, Child,  Adult) and Bloodborne Pathogens training to swimming and lifeguarding, HIV/AIDS education and Babysitter's Training,  American Red Cross Preparedness programs help people lead safer and healthier lives. The Red Cross constantly strives to respond to the preparedness concerns of Americans at home, in school and in the workplace. Today's innovative programs also include teaching lay persons and professionals how to use automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to save victims of sudden cardiac arrest.

CPR / First Aid / AED Courses:

From CPR, First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training to Injury Prevention Courses, and Bloodborne Pathogens training, you can team up with the most trusted name in health and safety training for nearly a century - The American Red Cross. Red Cross training offers complete, flexible programs that help you, your family and your community stay prepared for virtually any life-threatening situation. Build the program that works for you using our modular curriculum.

AQUATICS:

Lifeguard Training: Lifeguarding puts you in an exciting position, working as part of a team to help people safely enjoy the water. Lifeguarding will help you develop skills and experience that will be valued by colleges and future employers. It's a great way to demonstrate what you can offer. Colleges and employers look for applicants who can deal effectively with people, who have a take charge attitude and who are willing to work to develop new skills.

Water Safety Instructor: The American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Course provides instructor candidates the training needed to teach courses in the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety Program by developing their understanding of how to use the course materials, how to conduct training sessions and how to evaluate participants' progress.

GuardStart: Lifeguarding Tomorrow is designed to prepare 11 to 14 year olds to take Red Cross Lifeguarding certification programs and for future work as lifeguards. The GuardStart program helps participants build a foundation of knowledge, attitudes and skills that they will need to be responsible lifeguards. Lessons are grouped into five main areas: prevention, fitness, response, leadership and professionalism.

Lifeguard Instructor: To be an effective Lifeguard Instructor you must become completely familiar with the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training participants manual and other course materials and videos. This course gives you experience in presenting information to course candidates, conducting classes, and evaluating skills.

OTHER COURSES:

What you need to know and what every parent wants in a responsible babysitter!  Designed for 11-15 year olds, the Babysitter’s Training Course can help you:

  • Interview for a babysitting job
  • Choose safe and age-appropriate toys and games
  • Perform first aid
  • Learn diapering and feeding techniques
  • Learn tips for having a safe babysitting experience
  • Handle bedtime issues
  • Market yourself Safely
Children need to be watched at all times, but you can't always be there for them... So how do you know that your child will get the next best care when you are not there? How do you know that they will not only be watched by a responsible individual, but also that your child will be in good hands if a medical emergency occurs? For example, what if your child started to choke...

The answer, by hiring a babysitter who has gone through the American Red Cross babysitter's training course. In this course students not only learn how to care for children and infants (i.e.: feeding, diapering, etc), but they also learn life saving skills and first aid in case of a medical emergency.
